This historic polar view captures members of the Joint Services Expedition to Brabant Island, Antarctica (1983-1985) surveying the rugged west coast of the island in 1984. The composition shows the expedition team in safety harnesses and cold-weather gear standing on a high snow-covered ridge with their skis, looking out over the icy waters and glaciers below. The team proposed the name 'Prince Charles Strait' for this unnamed stretch of water in honour of their patron, the Prince of Wales, documenting a key moment from this major scientific and exploratory mission.
This is a modern continental size postcard which was printed by E.T.W. Dennis & Sons Ltd., Scarborough for Tony Bray (Card No. 3) in conjunction with the Joint Services Expedition. The postcard was made in the United Kingdom. This is an unused postcard.
All of our postcards are posted to you inside a plastic sleeve and a board backed envelope which will be marked 'Please do not bend'. The 'Mo's Postcards' watermark does not appear on the actual postcard'.
