This captivating monochrome view documents the historic Procession of Penitents (Boeteprocessie) walking through the historic streets of Veurne (Furnes). A figure dressed as a robed king leads the solemn walk down the cobblestone road, flanked by local spectators gathered outside traditional Flemish buildings, including a local sculptor's workshop (Beeldhouwers) and furniture store (Meubels). The legendary religious procession dates back to the 17th century and represents a deeply rooted cultural tradition in the West Flanders province.
