Dorset Postcard: The White Horse, Weymouth, Osmington Hill Figure XT2092.
This Edwardian-era postcard depicts the Osmington White Horse, a famous hill figure cut into the chalk downs north of Weymouth in 1808. It uniquely portrays King George III on horseback and was created to commemorate the monarch’s frequent visits to the seaside resort. According to local legend, the King was insulted by the figure as it depicts him riding away from Weymouth, which he supposedly interpreted as a sign that he was no longer welcome.
This is an unused standard size postcard published by J. Welch & Sons and manufactured in Great Britain.
Please also use the image magnifier to make your own assessment on the condition. Please ignore any lines caused by the scanner.
When possible all of our postcards will be posted to you inside a collectable plastic postcard sleeve and a board backed envelope which will be marked 'Please do not bend'.
Any 'Mo's Postcards' watermark does not appear on the actual postcard'.
