This historic waterway view captures several traditional Egyptian sailing vessels moored along the calm banks of the Mahmoudieh Canal in Alexandria. The scene shows the tall, distinctively long masts of the cargo boats reflecting in the water, flanked by lush trees and residential buildings on the shoreline. Constructed in the early nineteenth century under Mahmoud II, this vital canal connected the Nile River to Alexandria's harbor to facilitate regional commercial trade.
