This historic topographical postcard shows a detailed sepia photographic view of the monumental Norman keep at Colchester Castle. The composition illustrates the massive, weathered stone curtain walls and the prominent semi-circular apsidal projection of the chapel on the right flank. Constructed on the foundations of the ancient Roman Temple of Claudius, this impressive structure stands as the largest surviving Norman keep in Europe.
