Walmer Castle is a historic artillery fort built by King Henry VIII in 1539–1540 to protect the Downs, a strategic anchorage off the coast of Deal. Over the centuries, it evolved from a military fortification into a stately home, serving as the official residence for the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.
