London Postcard: Beckenham, Village Place High Street c1914 - XT1993

Village Place was a grand 18th-century mansion in the center of Beckenham village, built by William Davis in 1717 and later serving as the country seat of the local squire. During the First World War, the property was utilized as a military headquarters before it was finally demolished in 1920 to make way for the development of the Rectory Estate. The grounds were once famous for a 100-foot-tall elm tree and now lie near the start of "The Drive," a road named after the mansion's original driveway.

This is an unused standard size postcard published by Collectorcard, Croydon and manufactured in the United Kingdom. .
