This elegant military illustration by artist Richard Simkin depicts an officer of the Royal Horse Guards from 1815. Dressed in a dark ceremonial tunic with golden epaulettes, buff-coloured breeches, high cavalry boots, and an ornate plumed helmet, he rests his hand confidently on the hilt of his sword. The artwork offers a wonderful historical record of British cavalry uniforms during the Napoleonic era and the year of the Battle of Waterloo.
