This historic monochrome view captures a busy scene at Shiplake Lock on the River Thames, near Henley-on-Thames. A large wooden motor cruiser named "Vega Star" is positioned inside the lock channel alongside another cabin launch boat as holidaymakers watch from the banks. The lock keeper's cottage office and dense woodland background highlight the popular Edwardian and interwar leisure boating culture preserved along this scenic waterway.
