This historic view captures the sweeping archaeological landscape of Old Sarum, an ancient settlement site located near Salisbury. The imposing grass-covered ramparts of the massive Iron Age hill fort rise prominently on the horizon beyond a meticulously plowed agricultural field. Having served as a major strategic stronghold for Romans, Saxons, and Normans alike, this monumental earthwork site represents one of the most significant historic landmarks in southern England.
